I have 20 years experience in the marines, so I have a no nonsense approach to teaching and tutoring. My own two children (boys, now grown) will tell you that despite my military bearing, I am patient and understanding with kids. I believe the best way to teach children (or anyone) is to create the conditions that will encourage and allow them to teach themselves. I believe that adults model for children continuously. Children mimic our thought processes and our problem solving techniques. We teach best through example. A Little Bit About Me...

I am very passionate about helping students learn. It is my belief that each student has his/her own learning style in which they process information. I believe in the use of technology and various hands on manipulative to increase learning ability. It is my goal to help student comprehend that which is being taught and be able to enjoy their learning experience.
I have earned two masters, one in Exceptional Student Education (ESE) and the other in Educational Leadership. I hold a Florida certification for ESE with English Speakers of other Languages (ESOL) endorsement. In addition to college courses I have completed College Board’s Springboard training and have successfully used it to help students increase test scores. I have taught all subject areas in middle school ESE settings for six years in a variety of classroom models.

A Little Bit About Me...

All students learn at different levels. I like to incorporate all the learning styles of students. Some learn by hands-on, others by listening, and some by writing. These are all used by me. Each student has their own learning style and a teacher has to help each find what works for each student and then incorporate this to meet the needs for that particular student. Education cannot be mass-produced. One style does not fit all. Reading is extremely important to the success of a student. Education is the most valuable tool and weapon to get out of poverty; and it is something no one can ever take away from you.

I own my own science consulting firm and like to dedicate a certain percentage of my time to education and public outreach projects including teaching, mentoring, and tutoring. I have taught high school and college students on and off since 1986 and have had several students go on to VERY successful careers, perhaps one of the best ways to evaluate ones ability as a teacher. My most recent success (2006-07) was a 7th grade C and B student who had straight A's after only two months of working together and finished 7th grade with straight A's.
