My comments on tutoring Piano: Suzuki and traditional instruction, also retired Kindergarten teacher

I prefer to interact with the students and let them express what they are interested in learning. It is good to work together. I taught piano lessons, including individual and group theory, for 10 years, l980-1990. My studio contained about 40 students, who took individual lessons every week, and ability grouped theory games and lessons on Saturdays. From 1989-1999, I taught general music in Elementary Schools. From 1999-2004, I taught First Grade in a private classical school, and from 2004-2011,I taught Kindergarten and first Grade in Jakarta, Indonesia, in an international school.

My approach to teaching will be using real life problems. I believe that if you can understand the problem in a real life situations then you can apply it. Depending on the age I will make sure and teach on that level. I will plan lessons before meeting, so I can have the best understand of the subject. It is my goal to teach and see others learn. I have worked with children from pre-k through 6th grade. I am a full time student at UTSA, so I believe these challenging classes will help me be able to help you get a clear understanding. In my experience as a tutor, I have acquired the highly important skill of adaptability. Certainly, particular techniques and strategies such as asking provocative questions are helpful with any student of any age. More importantly, though, I have learned that the best tutors are those who can shape each session to the tutee's individual needs and personality. This is most easily accomplished in developing a flexible approach constituted by a blend of directive and non-directive tactics. With this approach, my goal is always to aid the tutee in feeling comfortable and confident in developing new ways of thinking about his or her work, and, from there, helping him or her along the journey to success. In 2008, as an upper-level English major, I accepted a position with Schreiner University wherein I hoped to use my education in the concentration of composition. For the rest of my college

Tutoring has long been a passion of mine. I find great joy in helping others, particularly children, advance their own knowledge and education. My goal is not simply to have my students learn; I want my students to love learning. I do not want my students to regurgitate facts but to truly understand. I am patient with my students, but I am also persistent in my approach. I never talk down to my students; rather I attempt to bring them up to my level. I am easy-going and have a way of quickly making others at ease with me. I try to make the tutoring environment as stress-free as possible. I believe that encouragement is key in driving students toward success. Once a student believes in himself/herself, learning comes naturally and quickly. From the beginnings of my education, I have had a strong sense of personal excellence in my academic career. Being home schooled with the accelerated A
