I believe students will rise to the level of expectations set for them. I am a bit of a comedian, and I use humor to allay frustration in learning situations. I believe in setting goals and charting a specific path for reaching them, while being flexible enough to alter the path along the way. Praise and positive reinforcement are powerful tools when teaching challenging material, and I use them frequently. I received a BA in General Business from WSU, and was honored as a Cum Laude graduate. The courses were varied and included a wide array of math application, from supply and demand curves to interest rate calculations. My classmates gave me the nickname "Webster" because I was frequently asked to edit their papers and to tutor them in several different subjects. My approach is to incorporate multiple learning styles (visual, auditory and so on). I also like to incorporate skills training as part of a scenario when possible. Using techniques like appropriate background music, brief stretch breaks, having the children read to Sierra, my golden retriever, are all techniques that I would like to use.
