A Little Bit About Me...

During my sophomore year in high school I decided to begin tutoring ESL students. I found the ability to help others succeed very rewarding, and began tutoring fellow classmates in courses including but not limited to English, math, biology, and chemistry. These sometimes difficult subject always made sense to me and I enjoyed watching as the students I tutored were successful. I have in that time earned a BS in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from Florida State University. With this degree I have had extensive exposure and to and learned many different areas in the math and science fields. While earning this degree I volunteered in an after school program tutoring under-priveledged children in the Tallahassee area. I develop most of my lesson plans using GLAD principles. I like to use multiple senses, student interaction and various resources to keep the student active. When teaching a language, it is important to know the basic grammar structure first, and then speaking and listening follow. I work with people with disabilities, teaching them how to canoe with a company called Wilderness Inquiry. The company's motto is: Anyone, anywhere, anytime, any place. We strive to make this possible, because it is possible! It is possible to have a quadriplegic go on a canoe trip or a blind person to kayak through caves. I am an avid learner and enjoy teaching and providing the same educational opportunities to others that were afforded to me. I have two Master degrees along with a Bachelor degree, with particular teaching emphases in History and English grammar and composition. I have experience teaching English, tutoring international students, and, I recently served as a weekly newspaper columnist for two years.
I am both patient and enthusiastic in my teaching style, believing that learning and growing offer tremendous rewards, even as there are inevitable challenges to be overcome along the way. I have experience teaching all generations, from young children to older adults, and believe that learning comes in all different forms and styles.
