As a tutor, I review previous test, quizzes and work with the student to see where the "disconnect" lies. Most students are very capable, they just need someone to explain the material in a way they understand. Some students are visiual learners, other kinetic learners or they learn by doing. During my undergraduate education I was a tutor and earned level one training certification. In graduate school I instructed lab courses and tutored in a learning center several days a week.
