My approach to teaching is more of a "why" approach. It is more important for students to know why something is or works rather than just how. This approach works well for middle and high school students. It allows students not only to understand the ideas taught but to apply them to other areas as well. I also like to use visual aids as well as conversation. I have found that many of us vary widely in learning styles. Some are visual learners, others are audio learners, and still others are a combination. I work well one-on-one but also enjoy small groups. My tutoring experience comes from high school, college and job environments. When it comes to bookkeeping and accounting I discovered a natural ability during my first bookkeeping class in high school. After finishing the course material in half the time, I was allowed to assist other students. In college, I was repeatedly asked by fellow classmates to help them acquire a stronger grasp of the subject matter. When a friend of mine graduated from Trumbull Business College and took her first position as a bookkeeper, I was recruited to guide her with my hands on knowledge of real world accounting. I have earned a bachelors degree in Accounting and Business Management, along with a minor in Economics. I have worked for Northwest Savings Bank for the past 3 years, in many different areas. In my position, I help produce a quarterly report that is given to the department heads and shows the overall financial position of the bank. I also help lenders determine the financial situation of a potential borrower. While in college, I began tutoring 3-4 fellow students in Accounting.
