I’ve never bought into the argument that some kids just can’t do math. There is plenty of truth that some learn math much quicker and easier than others, but with a good work ethic and plenty of encouragement all kids are capable of learning these sciences. I feel the most important thing to do as a teacher is to stay positive, and try to somehow relate the math problems to real life situations. When correcting a student, it’s vital to carefully choose your words, for a harsh response will demoralize the student’s spirit and desire to learn.

I first tutored my peers during high school in two subjects in which I excelled, physics and algebra. In undergrad the tables were turned as I was tutored in electro-magnetism (physics). My BS in Electrical Engineering gives me not only the skills to be proficient in the sciences and math, but also various social studies and English classes. I have gathered many tools in my life and they came from all the different activities I have done. One must only keep the eyes open and mind focused to absorb the world around them.
