I love the give and take of interaction with students. My approach is learner-centered, which means that I see each student as an individual and strive to tailor our instructional exchange to meet the needs of each person. I believe that teaching is dialogic; it is through dialogue that instructors and students together engage in the exploration process that leads to learning. I do not ascribe to the "open head, pour in facts" approach to teaching. After having been a stay at home mother for many years I decided to go back to school and get a degree in education. I wanted to be able to teach children and use my knowledge and experience to help further their education and life skills. Although I did graduate with a degree in Language Arts I have not been able to gain employment in a school setting. During the last 15 years I have mentored many students through KIDS HOPE USA and while a youth leader at my church, thereby giving me many opportunities to interact with students.
