Experienced Reading Specialist

Through the years I have had the opportunity to teach a variety of students with special needs and different abilities. I seek to find the individual's learning style and devise a plan that will fit that student. The curriculum and teaching style should fit the student, not the other way around.
I am a dedicated and experienced teacher in both ELA and Reading having taught for fifteen years in Vermont and New York State. My comments on tutoring English : I instructed middle school students in a self-contained classroom for several years and taught all the core subjects: English, Math, Science, and Social Studies. During this time, I worked collaboratively with general education teachers to create lessons and plan instruction.

I believe I have the skills set and passion needed to successfully tutor a variety of students. I have a Specialist degree in Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment and I am a certified teacher with a master’s in Special Education. I currently teach adults studying for their GED. I also taught a self-contained, city-wide program in the District of Columbia Public School system for four years for students with multiple disabilities. Both settings have made me very familiar with all of the core subjects, including Math, English, Science, and Social Studies. My comments on tutoring English : I have 8 years of ESL/EFL experience.
