I have found that reward goes much farther than ridicule or punishment when motivating a student to believe in themselves, and thus excel. I also teach the importance of information. What I mean by that, is that I teach the student why the information they are learning is relevant to the real world, I don't teach to a test. My interest in mathematics and physics led me to my college program of Civil Engineering. Along the way to earning my BS in Civil Engineering, I was exposed to a broad range of mathematics and different areas of physics. I immediately noticed that I excelled in these subjects and took the opportunity to tutor others in these disciplines for two years while in college.
