A Little Bit About Me...

High school senior at east Hamilton High with 3.8 GPA. Ap world history, Ap US history, Ap studio art, Honors Classes including English, Algebra 1 and 2, geometry, biology, have all been taken and passed with an A. I went to TN governors school for the arts for visual art. I have taught first graders and have tutored elementary students from 3rd-5th in my neighborhood.
Math- teaching a child how/why/where the steps to solving a problem came from originally and taking past knowledge together. My comments on tutoring Social Studies : I have taught Kindergarten, 2nd Grade, 3rd Grade, and 5th Grade. I am certified K-6th grade. I also taught advanced and Intermediate math and language arts in a GED/HiSet program. I currently teach ESOL/CIVICS for an Adult School.

My teaching philosophy starts out with essentialism which believes in a strong core curriculum and high academic standards. I believe it is important to have a strong foundation on which to build upon. After ensuring a strong foundation I tend to lean more towards progressivism. I believe students should be taught what is relevant today while becoming more independent learners, by utilizing problem solving skills and critical thinking. I teach the foundation and build upon that based upon what is relevant in a particular field today. I also include student-centered teaching strategies. I believe in order to learn a student must have base knowledge of a subject that leads into hands on assignments which require mastery of a subject. My personal style varies on the pupil. These may vary from simply being frustrated with the curriculum to a myriad of influences. My style is considered out of the box, meaning that if the standard method does not "click" with him/her, then I enjoy finding something of interest to them, to relate that to the subject at hand. A Little Bit About Me...

I believe in basic teaching with practice,and feedback. The differeniation of individual learning styles is always taken into consideration. My primary focus has been on 6th grade math and pre-algebra and having students understand the step-by-step process so they can not only know where the are, but where they are going and where they have been in mathematic skills. Working with ESOL students of many cultures has been a plus and has been a great part of my education focus when teaching English. I always find myself trying to lead others to figure out material on their own as a I set guidelines for them as they do so. I believe this is the best way for them to learn the material. I do not like to tell my students the answers, inhibiting them from thinking things through. I try to find different ways of teaching material in order to keep them motivated, as well.
I am a recent graduate of kennesaw State University, with a Bachelor's Degree in Biology. I believe that I am competent in various areas of biology and chemistry, and will be able to convey that competence. I have taught and tutored at my church and in other volunteer programs since high school. I also currently give drum lessons at a Stephen's Music Company.
