Patient and Friendly Tutor!

Friendly tutor with over five years of experience working with children and adults of all ages. I am a an active learner and listener, so students and I are able to build relationships quickly and can focus on making learning engaging. Prior to working with any student, I always review the subject matter and prepare well in advance to tailor the lesson to the student's individual learning style. I can assist with numerous subject areas- just ask!
I try to engage my students in every way possible. Reading and reciting are great for vocabulary memorization, but I try very hard to bring the subject matter to life in a meaningful way to the student. Pictures, music, relevant historical information- anything to help facilitate learning.

A Little Bit About Me...

While earning my Masters in Accounting, I voluntarily tutored Undergrad students that were earning their Associates or Bachelors in Accounting. The students were enrolled in the local community college (Central Carolina Tech) as well as the University of South Carolina. I have earned an Associates, Bachelors, and Masters which all have concentration in Accounting.
I tutor based on the individual's learning needs. I have encountered some that were visual learners ad everything had to be drawn/written out. I have also tutored students that can have me explain it and they grasp it easily. My teaching style changes according to the needs of the student because not every one learns the same. I do believe Accounting is a complex field and the student has to have an interest in the field to truly be successful in retaining what they are taught.

I believe that everyone is unique, and each student needs to develop their own style of learning. It is the job of the educator to discover those different styles and implement a teaching method that is most advantageous to the student.

I am a firm believer in teaching through a hands-on approach. I believe that a firm foundation in phonics is the key to becoming a strong reader and writer. I also believe that young children are more successful in math when given manipulatives to practice concepts. I fully believe that given the appropriate instruction, all students can learn and succeed. Not only do I think it is important for students to gain a full understanding of concepts, but also confidence in themselves as they apply what they learn. I believe that hands-on learning is what is best for most children, however, each child is different and a teacher must accommodate for each student's individual needs. I am very patient while teaching, as students learn at different rates.
