I am a graduate of the University of Florida with a BM in Piano Performance. I'm going to be in Gainesville for at least 2 more years as I am working on a Master of Education degree at UF. I am passionate about teaching; I currently have two students and I would love to find more. My rates are 35$ per hour or 25$ per half hour. You should also expect to spend about 20$ on music books through amazon or a local music store, unless you already have appropriate-level literature to study from. I really like working with children from low income families. I think each child has a different interest and way of learning. I try to discover these learning styles before I begin the tutoring process. I try to allow them to be comfortable and having fun during our sessions. Most of the time I do a lot of question/conversation responses to allow them to find the answer for themselves. I like a problem based learning style, even for the youngest of children. I not only want to teach them how to properly concur their learning material but how to find the information they need if they do not know the answer. I love seeing people understand something once I explain it to them in a way that they can understand it. I also love working with kids and teenagers because I believe that if we have a positive influence on young people they will grow up to be the leaders that our nation needs. The easiest way I can explain my teaching style is to begin with the fact that I have worked for Disney for the past 6 years. I always have a smile on my face, and I believe that encouragement is the basis for all true learning. Students need someone to encourage them more than feed them facts. By guiding students through new concepts and learning with them instead of for them, each student is building his or her own learning tools that are more likely to last than the tools their tutor may provide for one homework assignment and never use again.
