I have two different teaching styles depending on whether I am in a preschool setting or middle school type setting. I enjoy a very positive an inviting atmosphere where my students are comfortable while creating a community of learners. Physical science and math are often the most difficult subjects for students, but I believe anyone can understand the "basic idea." The difficulty comes from attempting to connect their intuitive understanding with the symbols on the paper. Many students think of these subjects as the memorization of formulas. But if they grasp the "basic idea," they can adapt and apply it to any problems they face. Instead of developing a toolbox of formulas, my goal as a teacher is to help the student develop a toolbox of problem-solving strategies. A Little Bit About Me...

I have enjoyed teaching Chemistry, Computer Programming and Freshman General Science for the past 20 years in Missouri and Kansas. I like to use current events and computerized resources to help students learn. I love science, but more importantly I know how to help students understand concepts rather than memorize. Together we can learn skills to prepare for further study in math and science. By helping each student construct his or her own knowledge, science becomes more relevant and important.

A Little Bit About Me...

During my Junior and Senior year of college, I tutored at a Children's Home in Lubbock, TX, 3 nights a week. I have also taught Sunday School classes off and on for the past 15 years for ages 1 year to 14 years old. I volunteer on a regular basis at my son's school, and have worked with the students primarily with Math and English.
I enjoy working with, and teaching, kids, especially in Math. I teach with creative tactics, when necessary, to drive home a concept. I am patient with kids (hey, I have 3 of my own!), and find it rewarding when I can make a difference.
