A Little Bit About Me...

Being that I have graduated from both Concordia College and Ivy Tech Community, I have found that I am well prepared in providing services to young children. I have taught Head Start children for several years. I received many accolades for my work with children from supervisors, co-workers, and parents as well. I also tutored children in reading in their homes and other public places. I received much recognition from my parents there as well for helping their children to achieve higher reading scores and better self esteem.

A Little Bit About Me...

After graduating with a degree in elementary education from Goshen College, I have gained many valuable experiences in the educational field. I have worked for two years in the elementary level at the first and second grades. I am currently working in the middle school level as a special education and Teacher of Record for 14 students with special needs. I have learned to modify every lesson to meet the needs of each student in order to help the achieve to the best of their ability.
I do understand that all children learn at different levels and in many different ways. I will help each child achieve at a high level just as I do in my classroom everyday. I would characterize my teaching style as relationally oriented. I want the student to know that I care about him or her. I may not articulate as much, but I want the student to see that I am giving my time to serve their needs and not my own. Loosely speaking, I am also a proponent of multiple intelligences. The creative teacher can usually identify a way to relate material and content using a methodology that connects. My teaching style is based in facts. I philosophically reject radical post-modernity which posits that truth is a moving target. The student does not have the right to tell me that 1+1 = 3 because 1+1 = 2. My teaching experience includes high school Home Economics and Special Education, elementary third grade, middle school Language Arts, adult reading at Job Corps, preschool, Emotional Handicapped at the elementary level, and substitute teaching. I worked as an evaluator for the state educational competency exams in elementary and high school for three different states and as such graded the language arts/writing/reading sections.
