I have experience in hands on teaching of students with their horses. I have worked on and off for many years helping memebers of local 4-H clubs prepare their animals for show. I enjoy seeing a student "click" with their project and be able to accomplish new goals. I think it is important to set specific goals for aech student and make those happen before you move on.

I have been a full-time teacher for the past three years and substitute taught for one year. The past two years I have taught seventh and eighth grade math and social studies and sixth grade reading. The classes at the school where I teach are ability leveled, I teach the on-level ability students. The students in these classes often need extra help and more time and patience in understanding and mastering concepts. In addition to teaching, I have also tutored students of different ability and grade levels, both after school and during the summer months. I knew I always wanted to work with children and I have loved all of my teaching experiences. I pushed myself to get a dual certification in Elementary and Special Education from Duquesne University. Out of college I had a few long-term sub positions in area school districts before getting a full time teaching position at Charters Valley School District. At Charters Valley I taught eighth grade learning support for 4 years before transferring to be third grade classroom teacher for 2 years. My learning support classroom had a range of disabilities from reading difficulty to autism. A Little Bit About Me...

When a question is asked, I am not going to simply just tell the student the answer. I would want them to think it out and try and figure it out for themselves. I would however guide them in the right direction and even ask them other questions they may know in order for them to figure out the intial problem. I feel that these types of interactions are a more effective way of learning. Also, writing things down helps tremedously because not only are you thinking it, but you're seeing it and reading it as well. I am a very easy person to get along with, and I am also very encouraging. I enjoy helping others whether it's in an academic environment or not.
