My teaching style is very structured and organized. I teach with the style that every child is unique and learns at their own style and pace. I do not believe in rushing learning nor that every skill, style, environment or learning setting works for every student. My teaching style also mirrors the idea that children learn through hands on, interactive, tactile, and motivating experiences, resources and materials. Most of all, my style of teaching is based upon tapping into each child's own interest or interests that academics can be related and taught through.

I have devoted my life as a mother of three and as an educator. I have earned a BA in English and a Master's Degree in Special Education. In addition, I have dual certification in New York State. I am very knowledgeable in the areas of History, English, and Life Science. My students have a high success rate for passing New York State Regent's Exams.
I am a firm believer that all children can learn if given every option to be successful. In order to achieve success, students should be surrounded with tools to help them learn and a positive learning environment is key. Teachers should not expect all children to learn at the same pace nor same learning style. I never give up on my students. Students need teachers who do not accept failure and teach perseverance.

I enjoy working with children and feel that they each have their own individual learning style. At times, I feel that conventional educational methods may fail some children. Educators must learn to be flexible, and allow students to learn in the style that they feel most comfortable. As a tutor, I feel that establishing a good rapport/friendship with my students before trying to "teach" them anything has been the most successful. If a child feels that you understand them and are interested and invested in their lives, you can become much more skillful at helping them to learn.
As a tutor, I owe the students in my cohort the very best! I am committed to providing our children with the very best educational quality that I can, and am constantly try to improve upon my own skills. Currently, I work for the Saratoga Springs and Ballston Spa school districts as a home instructor for grades 6 to 12. I enjoy working with the kids one on one and feel wonderful about helping them stay up to date with their school work until they are physically able to return to the regular classroom setting. Aside from home instruction, I also work regularly as a substitute for Saratoga County schools, and have built up a great working relationship with all faculty and students in each building that I am assigned. Prior to working for Saratoga Springs, I taught 1st grade for two years at PS 325 which is located in Manhattan. I had a very successful run at PS 325, and I am proud of my accomplishments with the children especially in the area of mathematics and reading. Lacking opportunities at home, many of my children faced incredible challenges when it came to learning thus I had ... read more

Growing up I dealt with dyslexia. I understand that each and every kid has a different learning style and not one style is better then the rest. My goal is to make learning as much fun as possible by pin-pointing the learning style of the student and finding ways to make learning more interesting. My most important goal is to teach children that everyone has the skills to excel and that learning can be fun. More importantly, I want children to understand that though their learning style may be different from his/her classmates it does not make them any less smart.

I try to highlight a students strengths and build solid study habits and work patterns. For instance, if a student has trouble focusing on his/her work, I try to push them for short periods of intense study, and then reward them with a break. Since my first degree was completed through an integrated, online program, I stress organizational skills. If I feel that a student is having an issue with organization, I explain to them how much it helps me to organize and then we address the issues they might be having.
Currently pursuing my second Bachelor's degree, I have been exposed to a wide variety of curriculum. I love teaching and working with children and adults. I, myself have achieved a high level of excellence in education by completing two degrees and plan on completing my BS in Nursing. I believe in teaching through demonstration and by providing an optimal atmosphere for learning. I strive to make a difference in other peoples' lives and that is why I chose to become a nurse.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am finishing up my Bachelors degree in Dietetics at SUNY Oneonta- I will be graduated in December. I have been offered positions as a chemistry tutor but denied because of my other jobs. I was a student mentor for a year in high school to students that were "slacking" or wasn't understanding one or more of their classes. I worked at Albany ARC and worked to train young adults and adults in the kitchen- which also included basic skills such as counting and reading.
I really would like to help make a difference in someone's life and help them understand academics just like myself. When I try to teach someone, I always explain to them the subject as basic and simple as possible. I give a few examples, and then help them figure it out themselves. When/ if they struggle, I will be there to help set them back on track.
