A Little Bit About Me...

I feel that all students learn differently and for that my teaching styles vary. I am a visual person so; I that all children can learn when shown examples of what I am trying to teach them. I am very hands-on as a teacher and I want your child to be involved in their learning. Above all, I love children and I feel that all children can learn if just given a chance.
In 2006, I earned my bachelors degree in Elementary Education K- 8th grades. My cognate was concentrated in the Socials Studies areas. I have a great love of history and always traveling to learn more about interesting parts of the country. After graduation, I taught Commercial Science grades 6th thru 8th in a middle school. I enjoy working with students of all levels. I have a patient easy going nature and feel the only dumb question is the one not asked. My goals are to enable the student to not only master the subject matter but to incorporate that knowledge and be able to relate it to other disciplines. I prefer one-on-one conversation in a question-and-answer format (Socratic method). However, sometimes a straightforward explanation is needed. For math tutoring, the best results come from working through problems step-by-step.
I have been teaching at the college level for 6 years, and I have 2 years of earlier experience at the middle school level as well. My BS in Electrical Engineering enables me to tutor effectively in math and science, and my PhD in Philosophy qualifies me for Science, History, and some writing help (I have published in peer-reviewed journals). I attended a preparatory school in Junior High and High School. I then went on to Mississippi College where I obtained a Bachelor degree in Home Economics with an emphysis on Fashion Merchandising. When I became a mom, I decided to home school my kids so that I could take an active part in their education and I could guide them in ways that someone else might not find interesting or important.

I also spent twelve weeks in West Africa teaching ESL and speaking French before my senior year at OBU. Since I was very young I tutored my brother on many occasions in reading and math. I believe everyone has a gift, and I knew that teaching was that gift for me. For 32 years I spent many hours in the classroom helping children to succeed. Not only was this succeeding in academics, but also in self-esteem as well.
