A Little Bit About Me...

I began tutoring privately,as well as,for my school's learning center during the early 1990's. I have continued tutoring privately on and off for the past twenty years. I was a substitute teacher in California and Michigan during the 2000's. I also had my own high school level classroom in California for two school years. I was hired on an "Emergency Credential" because I had my BS but no teaching credential. I was laid off due to budget cuts in June of 2003. I also taught "at-risk" elementary age children during the summer for the Glendora Unifed School District in Glendora, CA. I tutored privately for three years from 2005-2008 in south Los Angeles County and north Orange County, CA. I can provide recommendations from these clients if you are interested. My youngest students were in first grade with my oldest students attending college.

My comments on tutoring Life Science : A favorite subject.

My method of tutoring is to work with students where they are and add to their skills, to accomplish the final outcome, preferably an "A" or "B." Some students are visual learners and some are informational learners, or some students combine the two. The potential I see in students is what I try to bring out and have them realize they are capable of going a step further, to reach their goal. The importance of education and the students' continuance of same cannot be stressed enough.
I started out tutoring elementary students in basic math and English grammar while I attended college part time in the 1980's. I continued tutoring young students and adults in the 1990's, tutoring Basic Math, Basic and Intermediate Algebra, Basic Geometry, English Composition, Speech, Study Skills and the Sciences. In addition, tips were given to enhance test-taking skills in hard-to-Ace subjects ... read more

Life Science is one of my top subjects! I have done 2 postdoctorates in cancer Biology and have taught Biochem masters level students

I always tailor my teaching style to the personality and needs of my students with the objective of helping them to become the best they can be. I am patient, kind and friendly at the same time firm and structured when it comes to learning. I use this approach with my own children and after I am done teaching them a portion of a topic I always make them talk about it to check their cognitive recall. I have found that appreciation for every milestone achieved goes a long way.
I come from a family of teachers and professors and love to share my knowledge with today's students who are are tomorrow's future. During my career have been tutoring, mentoring, teaching, volunteering, training, or instructing my own children who are both A+ students, during my career as an Associate Professor , residents, college students at work, for my church and for my colleagues and friends. More About This Tutor...

As a graduate student from Central Michigan University I have learned several different methods to use when tutor students. Knowing that all students do not learn the same way or at the same speed I use several different programs/methods when tutoring a student. With younger studengts I use a combination of work books and computer lessons along with small homework assignments. With older students I use programs such as writing small reports at first while slowly building them up to larger yet easy to grasp essays. I work with the students on topics that they are interested in to try to make their tutoring as enjoyable as an enjoyable experience as possible.
My passion is working with students and seeing that my teaching styles are getting the students motivated and excited about their progress. As stated above I use different teaching styles with each student and their need. I ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

One of the most important things in teaching science is to make it relevant. I have seen that teaching students why something is relevant to them makes it come to life and makes it easier for them to learn. During my time as a supplemental instructor I learned to utilize a variety of sources and review techniques that maximize the potential of students to learn. I recognize that students all have different learning styles and I know that it is extremely important to adapt to the individual student. The best thing any teacher can do is to be flexible and I pride myself on my flexibility and ability to interact in a productive manner with students and people from different backgrounds and at different levels.
I first gained tutoring experience as a member of my high school's National Honor Society where I tutored math and science for middle school students. When I entered colleg ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I went to public schools in East Detroit, Michigan. In eighth grade I set a personal goal to attend the University of Michigan. I never had private tutors. My strongest subject is math. Mr Learmont, my junior high school history teacher would frequently say, "Take care of these books and these books will take care of you." It was that inspiration that raised me to love learning and in turn teaching others.
Thomas Edison said, "Genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration. I am extremely persistant. Whatever it takes to get someone to understand a concept I will strive to discover it. Most of all the process of learning should be kept exciting so that the pupil is left yearning for the next lesson.

I have been tutoring for many years and enjoy the experience. While working at a tutoring center, I created detailed progress reports and organized individual lesson plans for each student and discussed their progress with parents on a daily basis. It was very rewarding to see that I could make a difference in a child's life. It is very exciting to see a child succeed, which in turn raises their confidence and self-esteem. Whether in groups or in one-on-one sessions, I work patiently with each student and on their level, to ensure they get the most out of our time.
I have recently graduated from Lawrence Technological University with a BA in graphic design, although all of my work experience has been with children. I started this experience in high school, as a teacher aide to a third grade class, creating lesson plans and working one-on-one. I have tutored in a professional ... read more

I was a tutor at Lawrence Tech. University as a member of the Tau Beta Pi engineering honor society. We provided tutoring help to fellow students at LTU. I was also a tutor at Macomb Community College (Center Campus) during the years 1997 and 1998. I was a math and physics tutor in the Center Campus learning center. The tutoring was mainly for community college students and occasionally high school students attending Macomb. Additionally, I would help a friend who was teaching at Wayne State or LTU by teaching one or 2 days of a course for him when he was on vacation.
I really enjoy teaching at the college level or high school level to students. I make a real effort to help them better understand math and physics. These are my favorite subjects to teach so it is an enjoyable experience.

In my seven years of teaching experience I tailored my teaching styles based on students capabilities to handle course demands. My one on one tutoring style will include first a discussion with the student about his/her learning style, future desired careers, why he/she needs a tutor, etc. and an evaluation of student’s level of knowledge. Then together will review the theoretical concepts which the student didn’t assimilate at school, after which the student will be able to approach complex applications and exercises. I strongly believe in opened and stress free dialog between tutor and student as equal and trustable partners in this process.
My passion for Chemistry and Science was driven me to earn a bachelor degree in Chemistry and Physics and teaching thereof. My career includes six years of teaching Physics and Chemistry from middle school to high school level in Romania. I m ... read more

I enjoy working with children and providing them with the opportunity to better their education. The smile on a person's face when they understand the material or are able to solve a difficult problem is a great success for myself. I am extremely patient with people of all ages, I like to make sure to talk out everything with the student to get an idea as to their understanding of the material. I am really good with younger children, I have been babysitting for many years. I think the opportunity to teach people or just give them the tools to learn on their own is a wonderful experience.

Throughout high school I tutored my friend and neighbor, Mike, who suffers from a learning disability.
