My comments on tutoring Sociology : Bachelor degree earned in Sociology in 2012

I have been working with the school system for several years. I am currently teaching a fourth/fifth grade split. I am very experienced in working with children who are at risk, special needs, and add/adhd. I have a proven track record of student growth in core subjects of 1 year 3 months. I enjoy tutoring and teaching and I work a great deal with parents in order to keep the educational goals on the same page for their child. I have experience in both the world of sociology and psychology. I am able to adapt to behavioral issues that plague some children. I work hard to really get to know the student and help them calm themselves if they should have test anxiety etc. Every child is unique and all children have to be taught in the way in which they can truly learn. I always teach with different styles due to my experience working in China, Ohio, and other areas.

My comments on tutoring Sociology : I've taken many Sociology courses as part of the Criminology degree requirements.

I tutored one of the students in my High School in his Algebra class. During the course of the tutoring, his grades on his test progressively increased. His final grade in his class was a "B." While attending college, I applied to become a Peer Tutor at Capital University. I was offered a position as part of the tutoring staff, and over the course of the two years in which I worked as a Peer Tutor, I helped a lot of Undergraduate students in all of the courses that I felt the most comfortable in, including Business Calculus, Calculus for the Biological Sciences, Geometry, Trigonometry, etc. I had many regular students during the course of the two years in which I worked as a tutor. I enjoyed helping them, and they seemed to understand the course material better over the course of the semester. I loved helping all the different students, too.

While attaining my genetics degree at Ohio State, I worked at the OSU Chimpanzee Center. After graduating, I started working for the Department of Agriculture in the Weights and Measures division. It was my job to try to "trick" the scales before they could become available for commercial use. I moved back home to Coshocton when I got married. I quickly found a job teaching adults within our county's GED program. I would to teach math because I have been applying math my entire life. I have a four year degree in mechanical engineering technology. I have used math extensively in my everyday job. The last sixteen years I have used math to figure out complex equations. My problem solving skills are good. I teach my kids math and reading.

I love working with children, and feel that I can relate to them because I struggled in my early school years. I feel it's important to identify each child's learning style, and use that knowledge to help them discover the potential that they each hold. I feel it's extremely important to help them build their confidence, because anxiety only distracts them from the learning process. Since I find Biochemical processes so exciting, it is easy for me to get other students excited about them as well. Many students feel that the sciences are boring and dull. However, when I explain the processes to the students in their own terms instead of the textbooks they begin to realize that it can be fun!
