I love teaching. I always get well prepared before I sit down with someone. A couple of hours of preparation beforehand can make the difference between a tedious, unproductive experience and one that encourages the student and makes the excited about learning. I try to help with sticking points and not to lecture. I have discovered that people tend to remember answer to their questions and if I try to explain a deeper meaning it will only bore them and make them less interested.
At the University of Illinois at Chicago I earned a bachelor's of science degree in electrical engineering and worked as a teaching assistant for three sememsters of graduate school. After graduating from high school, I was unsure what exactly I wanted to do. I began working as a counselor/activities director for a summer recreational program in 2004 which allowed me to realize that working with kids is what I want to do. As I entered my first year of college, it became clear that math was my forte. After putting two and two together, I realized that teaching mathematics was what I wanted to pursue. I recently graduated from SUNY Cortland with a BS in Mathematics which has allowed me to gain a strong grasp on the theories and methods used in today’s curriculum. I also have been tutoring locally.
