My comments on tutoring French : I was a French major, lived in France and have taught the language in both classroom and individual settings. I am repeatedly told by native speakers that I sound like one of them.

I have been a dynamic, successful elementary, middle and high school teacher as well as college instructor of Art, English, French and History for many years. I also taught in a two way language immersion school ( English and Spanish) for six years so I can teach Beginning and Intermediate levels of Spanish. While teaching, I have always taken courses in the best practices of teaching as well as courses in subject matter content. I have tutored people of all ages, learning styles and needs in a range of subject matter, including testing; I ascertain how each student learns best to develop the most fitting, effective teaching strategies for them. I am considered a Master teacher as I train other teachers about best practices and have also been recognized as "Teacher of the Year.”
I believe learning should always be engaging and meaningful. It is critical to address individual studen ... read more

BILINGUAL IN SPANISH AND ENGLISH ABLE TO TUTOR FROM K-12

I' ve been working for about 18 years with students from Kindergarten through 12 grade in the Petaluma Schools District in the city of Petaluma, California. Since I've worked in a classroom setting as a Bilingual Instructional Assistant, I have acquired a lot of experience from a diverse teaching styles. Nowadays, I am working at the High School level tutoring students in Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Science and English.
According to the need of the student, some students are fast learning, some are slow, this is very important taking in consideration because my philosophy is that "Everybody is able to learn", we just have different learning styles.

A Little Bit About Me...

This thought of Nikos Kazantzakis, Greek writer and philosopher has always reminded me of the tremendous love I have of teaching or tutoring: "Ideal teachers [tutors] are those who use themselves as bridges over which they invite their students to cross, then having facilitated their crossing, joyfully collapse, encouraging them to create bridges of their own." Instead of admiring good thought only, I usually feel concerned doing something about it. Unfortunately, in my home country, the Democratic Republic of Congo, the teaching/tutoring profession is not highly regarded, and so I did not go down that path professionally. My decision to go to law school to become a legal professional did not stop me from finding alternative methods of teaching or tutoring. While in high school, I was passionate about sharing the excitement of a good book to classmates; in addition, I was involved in ma ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

As a high school student, I tutored my peers in French, drawing on my life-long use of the language to help others understand the intricacies of conjugation and word order. Now, as a college student, I am continuing my study of French to coordinate the dialect I learned at home with the formal use of the language. My tutoring experience in reading includes work with students at Mountain View Elementary School in Concord. There, I met with students who were struggling with reading at their grade level and helped them with pronunciation and comprehension. As a health educator, I am well-versed in anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, and pathology.
I prefer to teach not through rote memorization or lengthy lectures, but through participatory experiences. Following the theory that some people are audio learners, some are visual learners, and some are kinesthetic (doing) learners, I lik ... read more

Whether the lesson is necessary for academic requirements or for leisure, I have always enjoyed passing my knowledge of the French language and culture to others, adapting my lessons to the level required by the student(s). Not everybody can flourish at the same pace; therefore my patience is an added bonus. I place emphasis on areas that most meet the student need, be it speaking, writing or grammar, and in some cases, culture. I have taught French at exam level as well as casual conversational level. An important part of any first lesson is to assess student need.
I am French born and educated, with an MA in English from the Institut Catholique de Paris. Married to an Englishman, with two grown-up daughters, I have lived in California for the past 13 years, prior to which we lived in the UK. A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that education and learning are two of the most exciting and fulfilling elements of life and believe that helping others to learn is a way to give something back to this world. I have a Masters degree in Business. Not surprisingly, my math skills are quite good. Additionally, I possess strong communication skills (verbal and written) and am working on my first novel. In my professional life, I have managed staff and welcomed opportunities to teach and mentor. An intern from years ago recently contacted me and told me that he still fondly remembers us working on a white board to problem solve an issue. I believe that learning and problem solving should be fun, a puzzle that can be cracked if we just approach it the right way.
I love the learning process. Few things in life are as rewarding as teaching and learning. Stylistically, I would consider myself to a patient and ... read more

As a college student, I am very interested in achieving my highest level in my field, meaning to become a future translator and interpreter in English, French , and Arabic. I am fluent in French and Arabic. To me learning languages is not just a process of achieving the ability of speaking and writing them , but it goes beyond this level. It is also learning people's cultures and communities.Learning a language may also help understand, function, and adapt in other environments that are different from ours. During the last four years I tutored French and Arabic to kids, adults; professional and students.
I don't have a professional experience in teaching. But I am willing to make the environment where I help people to learn Languages comfortable, pleasant, and not boring. I use different methods for different learners. It depends on the age of the learners and their interests ... read more

I would describe my teaching style in terms of the activity, belaying. Slack is given to the rope at times so that the climber may advance, or traverse, the face of the mountain. When the climber feels tired, or incapable, the rope needs tightening so the climber stays secure. If the climber falls from the face of the mountain the taught rope will prevent injury or possible demise. I tend to give my students slack when I feel they are advancing in terms of curriculum, yet once I notice their tendency to rest, or falter, I tighten my teaching approach by using more straightforward methods so that they are not confused, or do not wear themselves out with struggle. This is all so they reach the top of whatever mountain they choose to conquer.
My bachelor's degree in English serves as an example for the effort and time committed to education and a service to academia. I learned literar ... read more
