A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style appeals to all learning types. I use examples alot so that students may get a sense of what is requires. I like to break learning dowm into steps that that every step is mastered to conclude a full mastery of a topic/subject upon completion.
I started my education degree tutoring for a company through No Child Left Behind. Later I advanced in the company becoming the Program Coordinator. On last year I taught High School English for grades 9th-12th. I am currently working as a Writing Lab Teacher in an Elementary School.

My experience as a teacher/trainer/tutor/instructor is wide-reaching and diverse. From Sunday school to scientific and technical subject matter, my students have ranged from teenagers to corporate managers and directors. My passion for English started with the greatest high school English teacher the Southside of Chicago has ever known; Maceo T. Bowie. He was a role model for me and many others who had the fortune, or misfortune, of being in his classes. I spent 4 years in college teaching preschool, as well as 2 years as a high-needs reading tutor for the psych dept at my university. My degree is in journalism/English Lit and my GPA in Lit was a 3.7. I have three children of my own, and they are all avid readers, with my oldest reading 150+ books per school year. I'm well-aware of the current and classical children's literature out there, and taught both of my older children to read - at 5 and 3, respectively.
I'm very laid back and just enjoy being around children. Every child is different and has different interests and difficulties. One box does not fit all, and it's a matter of figuring out how to relate to the child at hand and make the subject matter appealing to them that I enjoy the most.

I tutored for Mission: Mentor while I attended Georgia State Universtity for 3 years. I was awarded Mentor of the Year in 2006 at Georgia State University. When I continued my education at Augusta State University, I volunteered as a mentor at the ASU Literacy Center helping children of all ages.
I love teaching children. For the younger children, I tend to be more hands on with projects and objects to help them learn. I also believe visual aids are very good. For middle school children learning math and English, I feel like giving them lots of practice problems and going over it together really seems to help. For students in high school it usually depends on the kid. By this age most of them have discovered if they are visual, kinetic, or auditory learners. Based on the type of learner they are , I like to adjust my teaching style.
