My teaching style differs with each child. One child does well learning by applying the material to real live situations Another does better with breaking it down and just memorizing facts I am very flexible and make an effort to find the best method to save both myself and the child time that would otherwise be wasted with an ineffective approach to learning.

Just telling a child how to do a problem is not effective. I believe a teacher needs to explain the logic and reasoning behind solving certain problems certain ways. Knowing this can help the child discover what works specifically to him/her. If a child learns to reason for his/her self, they gain the ability to be lifetime learners. My hope is, that instead of dreading school they gain confidence in their abilities to figure things out, and therefore find joy in learning. After graduating with a bachelor's degree with a major in Spanish and minors in English and French, I began teaching high school Spanish my first year. Since I married a military officer, we moved often, so I had a chance to do substitute teaching at all grade levels and all subjects.
