I graduated in December 2014 from Iowa State University with a Civil Engineering degree- 3.5 GPA honor student. Before Iowa State I went to the University of Iowa for two years to play basketball. Prior to that I went to Des Moines Christian High School. I am currently working in Des Moines. I have a passion for teaching and have tutoring experience in college. Math and science are my strengths. I can help with about any math and science up to organic chemistry (I was pre-med my first few years of college). A Little Bit About Me...

I believe in setting goals and working to ensure they are accomplished. In my opinion, learning should never feel like a boring chore. The student should be working hard, but enjoying him or herself in the process, and this is when the most efficient and effective learning occurs. I work to impart certain values in the students I serve, including: fortitude, imagination and pride.
While I earned my bachelor's degree in communication from Loyola, I also worked as an Academic coach for high school students. I spent a year tutoring students for an academic competition that tested all skill areas including, writing, math, history and science. I spent the summer of 2006 working closely with people with disabilities. I perfected my teaching skills through hands-on learning/teaching techniques.

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that every person is able to learn, if they want to. You can't make someone learn if they have no interest in it. I try to establish a reason for learning with the student. My first child I tutored is a perfect example. This boy was 14 years old. He really enjoyed carpentry. He hated math because he didn't realize that it would help him with what he loved. With the relation of math to his carpentry he was able to come from a low "D" to a low "B". It worked becasue he was able to mentally visualize and apply it to his carpentry. I feel the other key to his success is that we set the realistic goal of one letter grade of improvement. The extra letter was the icing on the cake.
