I have had the unique opportunity through my diverse educational experiences to work with many different types of people. My initial degree is in Social science from Alfred State University. Throughout my education at Alfred State University I truly believe I began to understand and appreciate others and their differences. I received my second degree from Cortland State University in Early Childhood Education with Inclusion. I had the opportunity to work with many different types of children. During my time at the Rochester Institute of Technology, I was a student grader while working towards my B.S. in Computational Mathematics. I obtained my degree with Highest Honors, and an overall GPA of 3.88. I graded mostly college algebra and early calculus. I was required to do the same homework and quizzes the students did, and create answer keys. Then, I would go through each problem and either give full credit for a correct answer and work, or partial credit if needed. By following their work, I was able to see where they made mistakes, and write in notes on what they needed to do. I will be returning to RIT for a second bachelor’s degree, in Industrial Engineering, which also requires a strong math background.

I believe learning is a two-way process. It needs to start with a student who has a true desire to learn and then, of course, the teacher needs to have a true desire to bring about the learning. A successful combination will result in mastering of concepts and development of skills as opposed to simply reciting facts.
