My comments on tutoring Chess : I was taught as an adolescent.

I started out tutoring elementary students in basic math and English grammar while I attended college part time in the 1980's. I continued tutoring young students and adults in the 1990's, tutoring Basic Math, Basic and Intermediate Algebra, Basic Geometry, English Composition, Speech, Study Skills and the Sciences. In addition, tips were given to enhance test-taking skills in hard-to-Ace subjects like Economics. I have tutored for the Sickle Cell Organization in 2001, helping students catch up numerous missed assignments. I tutor when the opportunity presents itself. Many people have different teaching skills and techniques. I do not believe any technique to educate a child is better than any other technique. Each child learns differently. Understanding the fact that children learn differently is crucial. The teacher must be able to adapt to the child's learning style. A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is very unique because I tend to simplify the understanding process of mathematical analysis. I feel that I can teach anyone from 1st grade up to the college level. But I never do the problems for the student. Instead, I guide them through the problem so the student will learn first hand how to solve calculations step by step.

I began officially tutoring four years ago, starting up a private tutoring business. From my time with English Club, I found there is very little advantage for either party when the teacher is draconian. Giving the student little rewards, plenty of encouragement, and being patient work much better. I like to try to understand the student on a personal level, so I can make him or her comfortable.
