I have had great success with students on a one-to-one basis. In language learning, some students have needed out-of-class time to work privately with me. After graduating from high school as valedictorian, I earned a Zoology BS and a Studio Art BA from SUNY Oswego, successfully completing English composition, speech, visual arts, biology, zoology, chemistry, Spanish, and calculus II courses, and graduated with a 3.76 GPA. Prior, I had taken and earned over a 90% in algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and AP calculus. While completing an MFA from WCSU, I began 3 years of service as a tutor with NY GEAR UP of The Research Foundation of SUNY, providing academic assistance to students, grades 9-12th in core and non-core subjects, as well as Regents, SAT, and ACT exam prep. In the last 2 years, I have taught art for levels EC-8th and created a teen development program with daily tutoring. For writing, usually I conduct some exercises. The level of the critique and what to say depends heavily on the age of the student. For grammar, I would either find or create my own practice materials and we could go over whatever is necessary until I've decided that the student is making improvements or the student has succeeded. Over the past year, I have tried to extend my ability to share my love and appreciation of English and literature with others. As an English/Communications major, I am very knowledgable in a variety of subjects including grammar, writing composition and reading comprehension. Last year, as President of the Writers Forum, we spent several months tutoring as part of an after school program where we helped children in Baltimore write.

I am an experienced, certified teacher of Mandarin Chinese and Spanish, with teaching experience from elementary school through adult learners. I hold a Ph.D in Foreign Language Education and am a national-level demonstrator teacher for Mandarin Chinese pedagogy. I have a background in Linguistics and pedagogy as well as extensive personal experience learning languages (eleven at last count), so I have several different ways to explain any issue or difficulty that a student might be experiencing.
