For the past two years, I have been teaching journal-writing and college classes at the Louisville Comprehensive Care MS Center. Prior to that, I have tutored students ages 7-40 in a various set of topics, primarily math and business subjects.
My preferred style of teaching is student-lead. I believe in the Socratic method, but appreciate following a curriculum, as well. I volunteer at a Montessori school and I know that getting learners of all ages interested and excited about a topic is the key to retention.

Believing that people learn best from what they consider most relevant to their lives, my teaching style is one which encourages learners to seek a higher level of knowledge. Basic memorization generally fails us all in time. Modifying or adapting information in a manner to help the learner reach success is crucial. I have a wide variety of professional experience in addition to my educational background. I have nearly a quarter century of experience as an auditor, accountant, financial analyst, HR administrator, etc. My career has been spent at large corparations, small businesses, government agencies and as a free lance independent contractor.
I think the best way to teach is to try to find examples that my students will relate to when it comes to instruction. Students can have very different life experiences, which can help, or hinder, their ability to learn certain subjects. My role is to help those students that have difficulty with understanding certain subjects to work with them to come to an understanding of the material, and learn from it.
