I have a BA degree from the University of Central Florida in Education and a current Florida Teaching Certificate. I have taught high school for 18 years before relocating. At that time I worked in the informal education field as an afterschool program teacher and manager of a educational programming business, educational director at a Museum and Nature Center and opened my own educational business for developing educational programs. I am currently working on my Masters of Education Degree and desire to move into the Instructional Design and Technology field. I am currently teaching remedial reading and Math at Mary Immaculate School located in Key West grades k-8 I have taught bilingual students I have also taught high school level students, Biology, Math, Language Arts, Spanish and fine arts My 20 years of experiences has allowed me to work in urban schools, rural schools and in private schools. I have most recently been trained to teach Adults through Literacy of America as a volunteer. I believe in life long learning and I encourage children to apply themselves to do their very best.I also encourage children to determine what their best learning style is and to apply their learning style to fit their specific needs. For example some children require a more sequential repetitive approach to learning. My style tends to range based on who I am trying to teach, and I suppose is most accurately labeled as adaptive. I understand that different people learn things in different ways, and so I try to accommodate that with my teaching. For instance if I found that a student learns better visually then I would attempt to use visual cues and examples in lesson plans to make the material as easy to understand as possible. I also believe in keeping a very loose and pleasant atmosphere, and making sure that everyone feels comfortable and safe, which I believe also assists in the learning process. Teaching by example with the use of hands-on experience and exercises is the best method for learning the actual practice of accounting. Text books teach only very basic theory and are not as useful for practice as it eists in the real world. The studennts must understand theory but must also learn how to apply that theory to real situations and understand when to be creative within the practice. I prefer to attempt to use examples and illustrate situations that the students are likely to encounter in real life rather than a text book ideal. This method will mean much more to a student attempting to make sense out of real practice as opposed to a sample that most likely doesn't exist in the real world.
