A Little Bit About Me...

I hold an M.A. and an M.Phil. in English Language and Literature (with a concentration in Renaissance literature) from Yale University and a B.A. in English and Philosophy from the University of New Mexico. For the past year and a half, I have been a full-time, tenure-track Instructor of English at the Carlsbad branch of New Mexico State University. I have taught a wide variety of courses in English composition and literature at Yale, UNM, NMSU, and Central New Mexico Community College for the last six years, including courses in developmental and college-level composition, technical writing, traditional grammar, literary criticism and theory, world literature, the Bible as literature, Shakespeare, Milton, modern poetry, and contemporary fiction, often carrying enormous course-loads. My comments on tutoring Reading : I love to make reading fun, and especially to open the amazing world of classic literature to your child. I encourage students to think critically about what they are reading and to honestly assess its impact on them.

I am always working to make learning engaging, vital and fun. I have implemented school-wide science fairs, maintained an ongoing chess club, created community-wide mental math competitions, presented at various professional conferences, and directed the district environmental summer program at the school forest. My students videotape flora and fauna, study the stars first-hand, plant and nurture an urban garden, start our own worm farm, and over the years have planted hundreds and hundreds of trees.
