Keep calm and teach on!

I recently completed student teaching requirements for Kansas and will have my degree conveyed shortly. I chose to be a teacher as my second career. I have always wanted to teach and love working with children. I spent 18 years working for full time for the Kansas National guard. I worked in Logistics for 13 years, then I worked as a budget analyst for the KSARNG for 5 years. I am a veteran who has traveled all over. I believe that if a student wants to learn a subject and is willing to put forth the effort, that student has the tools to succeed. Quite often they just need help in "how" to learn. There are a lot of subjects that are intimidating to students. I like to demystify and simplify the subject so that the student has a greater chance for success.
I currently am a substitute teacher for all grades from 1st grade to high school. I started this avocation after spending 27 years in the Finance and Accounting areas. I have an MBA from the University of Kansas. One of the gifts God has given me is the ability to help others reach their potential. When teaching, I am quite often able to explain difficult subjects to students in a way that is easier for them to understand.

There are several different styles of teaching. I experienced hands on teaching through the lab courses that I taught. These experiences showed me how important hands on learning is to understanding difficult and complicated concepts. By seeing the information you are learning in a different way, you now have one more method of remembering that material. I believe that students learn best when they not only hear the information that they need to know but also know how to use and apply that information. That is why I have very hands on and demonstration oriented style of teaching. I am always patient and understanding and I love teaching.
