My teaching style is Socratic. I find out where the student's understanding lies, and then I lead them through the process of discovery. This is an interactive process. I do not believe that a student will stay involved if they are not actively engaged. Math is somewhat different. After breaking down the method of problem-solving used in the student's textbook, I would guide them step-by-step through the problem-solving process. Generally, I'm a constructivist, and I believe the best method of tutoring is providing a completely individuated scaffold for any student. I feel step by step methods, with easy to remember techniques, are best to achieving the final result. "Hands on" is definitely the approach, once the goal and methods have been established. I was designated "dissector"; Those prepare for the "practical-lab." class for Anatomy. In Egyptian schools of medicine, they still use cadavers.
