From my tutoring experience in college, I have learned that everyone has a different learning style. In order to be an excellent tutor, one needs to adapt to their tutee’s needs. One also needs to be patient with their tutee. It is very important to be able to explain a problem in several different ways in case the first few ways do not make sense to the tutee. I have two bachelor degrees, one in computer science, the other in mathematics with a type 09 cert (6-12). I belong to Mensa and the NCTM, and have excellent English and decent Spanish speaking and writing skills. I have taught and tutored in mathematics and computer science for quite awhile, and I earned a 95% on my PSAT and a 32 on my ACT.
Generally, I'm a constructivist, and I believe the best method of tutoring is providing a completely individuated scaffold for any student. While I was raised in old-school education, I believe that some of the newer techniques of education through hands-on, the use of digital technology, and through writing across the curriculum are effective for many students.
