I love teaching and seeing students understand.

I have taught Elementary Education in Ohio for 30 years. I taught GED for Garrard County for 10 years.I have always enjoyed working with students who do not understand their subjects, especially in Math. I will change the teaching to fit the student, if understanding is not happening. There is nothing like hearing a student say, "Now I understand, no one has ever shown me that learning can be fun!"

A Little Bit About Me...

As a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University I have dedicated a lot of my time and effort to learning concepts of physics. I have earned a bachelor degree in physics with a minor in mathematics graduating with a 4.0 in both my major and minor classes. I graduated magna cum laude, was awarded introductory to physics student of the year, awarded the Ted M. George outstanding senior in physics award, and taught an introductory to physics lab at Eastern Kentucky University Fall 2009. I believe it is very important for children to learn to enjoy the process of learning. Every child learns and relates to new information differently, so teachers must use appropriate teaching strategies to ensure the success of their students. My goal is to help students to make better grades, but teach them HOW to learn where they can become independent lifelong learners.
I graduated from WKU with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education, and during this time I worked at an elementary school during their after school program helping tutor and supervise the children. After I graduated, I substituted for several school districts in mostly elementary grades, but I also worked in middle & high school. I am currently working half-time as a reading intervention teacher. My strongest subject is math and english.

A Little Bit About Me...

I begin by establishing rapport with the student, and usually I prefer a lighthearted, encouraging style of interaction. I believe every student is capable of learning, but may not have been shown the strategies and skills that will best suit them. I like to help the student identify their learning style, and then teach using strategies that will coincide with that learning style. Often when the student has been taught some different strategies for learning, s/he is more capable of tackling new lessons without additional help. As a Peace Corps Volunteer in Costa Rica, I learned that our goal was to "work ourselves out of a job." That is always my goal as a teacher and tutor: to do my job so well that my services become unnecessary!
