I have tutored many students in math, and a few students in English in the past. I am always able to adapt to how the student learns, and help them understand the material. I have worked with students from the age of 7 to the age of 15, from elementary English to Algebra 2, I have made it so the student can understand the concepts they are learning in school.
Depending on the students learning style and the subject, my teaching style will differ. If the student is a visual learner than I will create PowerPoints and other visual aids to help them. If the student is kinesthetic than I may create a project for them to do (if the parent is ok with it), or I may have them interact more during the tutoring than with the visual learner. My comments on tutoring Elementary Reading : Comprehension and Fluency are very important to be successful in Reading. There are many strategies to help with comprehension such as identifying Literacy Elements, Sequencing and understanding Cause and Effect and Time Lines. When I teach non-fiction, this when we are covering an informational piece we often complete a KWL Chart. This stands for What You Know, What You Would Like to Know and What You Have Learned. The child relates what they already know about which builds background knowledge.

I spend a lot of time teaching small group interventions which focuses on the Reading Sufficiency criteria that is mandated by the Oklahoma State Department of Education. I have also worked with many Gifted and Talented students preparing them for Writing Contests. My passion is encouraging students to look forward to the Core Curriculum Test.
