I am an international student and since I came to UMD tutoring and mentoring became my favorite occupation. I have been tutoring students in a variety of classes of different categories. My tutoring history starts in my high school. I was good at most of my classes and very often helped my friends when they struggled. When I got to UMD, the same story continued. Then, I got an offer to tutor for the multicultural center and officially became a private tutor. I tutored privately about 15 international students. I have taken more than the amount of credits I need to graduate with a BA in mathematics from Luther College. I have minors in physics and chemistry. I have always enjoyed math. I have assisted an elementary school teacher in tutoring mathematics. I have assisted middle and high school aged children in learning mathematics when they have not attended class or have fallen behind.

My approach to teaching involves finding the best learning venue for each individual student. I don't believe in 'fitting' the student to the method, rather finding the method that works for each individual. I use phonetics when that is the simplest method, the challenge of games/competition when that is what clicks for my student. I have even used graphics to create a learning environment for students who lack imagination! The goose-bumps I get when I see the 'lightbulb' of recognition turn on in a student's eyes remains my reason for wanting to share the pursuit of knowledge with everyone!
