My comments on tutoring Marine Biology : Was a Marine Biology minor in college. I also worked for over a year and half as a Marine Mammal Biologist.

I obtained a B.S. in Biology, with a concentration in aquatic science, from Wittenberg University in 2006. During my undergraduate studies, I tutored elementary students in math and science twice a week for two years. After college, I moved into the marine science profession. In August of 2008, I started teaching High School Biology I, Earth and Space Science, and Physical Science to students in Polk County. In addition, after school hours were spent with two students taking AP Biology classes. Both students achieved a 4 or higher on their placement exams. I have a way of perceiving the difficulty the student has, and am able to explain the material in a simple way that makes it easy for students to grasp. I believe that authentic learning experiences are the most powerful. Each of us learns differently and for different reasons and we all have disabilities; some are just easier to see than others. I have a lot of experience tutoring friends and classmates throughout my college career. As a psychologist I understand what it takes to transfer information and get it to "stick" in our central nervous system (brain). After understanding some things about the person I would be tutoring I would then develop a plan to present information to them (in a multimodal manner)that would easily associate with their particular "past environment." I instructed middle school and high school students for over 12 years before I became certified as a school psychologist in 1998.
