I Want You to Believe in You!

I like to use the Socratic method, mainly by asking questions and challenging assumptions. In addition, I like to engage those I teach, challenging them to think about what they previously have not considered. I believe in building on successes, and offering constructive criticism, where appropriate.
I have mentored various people since 2000, in all types of subjects, including math, science, social sciences, English, writing, literature, and other related subjects. My academic record is very strong, and I believe empowering those I work with every single time. The only pre-requisites are that you have to be willing to learn, and learn how to learn.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have experienced various types of teaching styles while in school. I have learned a long the way every student is different and learns in a different way. In high school and all even through college math had always been my hardest subject. My second year in college I had a math professor that had a different approach to teaching math and for the first time in my life I finally understood math! I understand that any child can run into problems with schoolwork. I try to find out why the child is having a problem before trying to help them. Did he miss something and fall behind? Is she simply bored with the subject? The approach I take with the child depends on the answers to these questions. I feel it is important for the learner to understand that there is a reason for making the effort to learn each subject. In math, I like to assign the numbers and equations to subjects the learner likes, such as pizza, sports or music, for example. I also find it is beneficial to make references to the different careers one might use the knowledge learned in the child's classes.

I have worn many hats and done many things that all apply to the classroom and teaching young people. I believe that education is the key to life and living. But a person has to believe they can do it first and I believe everyone can learn and should be given the opportunity
I ask a lot of questions to get the students thinking. I believe in teaching young people and the adults I have worked with to think critically fist. Then I work with them on being able to articulate and write their ideas down...subject matter follows naturally if they have the confidence and can just think for themselves not just spit back facts and what others want to hear. It is critical to get each student to understand the far reaching importance of historical events, and how they still effect today's atmosphere.
