I enjoy teaching and help others learn the subjects of math, science and Spanish. Everyone is different and therefore everyone has a different style of learning. Therefore, my first responsibility as a tutor is to understand the best method of learning of the student and use it to maximize the potential for the student, in grasping the subject. Most are capable of learning better by examples and/or diagrams in the area of physics and math. Therefore, I always use a drawing board to better explain the material and the examples. I have fourteen years of teaching experience and love working with children. I am able to establish quick a quick teacher student relationship. I am able also to quickly see strengths and weaknesses in students. I am curently substituting for the Winston-Salem Forsyth County school system. I believe in teaching students how to develop their critical thinking skills, and teaching them the concepts needed to succeed in school and life. I have my degree in Elementary Education. I have been tutoring for over seven years, starting with my peers in tenth grade. I have tutored a wide range of subjects, from Geometry through Calculus III, from general computer knowledge through utilizing the advanced functions of Microsoft Access. I have tutored people ranging from my peers to people three times my age, to as young as third graders. My motto has evolved into "Helping those who feel they can not be helped" I help guide the student along, having them discover much of the information in a trial and error fashion. I tend to use the questions they are struggling with the most, making similar examples, then walking them through these problems and breaking down the problems until the student understands the how the process works.

I am a senior in the Education program at Appalachian State University. As an Elementary Education major, I have worked closely with children from many age levels. I have participated in an after-school tutor/mentor program at Appalachian State in 2008. In 2009, I completed two internships while in the Education Program. One working with 2nd grade students and the other with 5th grade students. I have also taken many courses to understand context and teaching strategies in all subject areas. I believe that children must be engaged in the subject matter before successful learning takes place. Finding fun, interesting, and personal ways for the child to connect to the topic will truly allow them a chance to learn and retain information. I love finding different ways for individual learners to understand what they are being taught.
