Very relaxed and encouraging. I use quite a bit of discussion, and I like to ask students questions that lead them down the path to help them discover the answers they seek. I have found that information is better retained if one can guide the student to the conclusion that they seek, building upon the knowledge that is already there. I believe that an effective teacher sees him/herself as a guide on a path to discovery, not just a lecturer. When I teach, I like to start by asking strategic questions. These questions help the student focus on the subject and help me find out what they already know. From there, I can guide them through an investigation of the subject by continuing a logical sequence of questions. When we reach a point where the student can not answer my questions, I stop asking and start explaining. By then, the student is focused, interested, and ready to hear what I have to say.
