I believe that all children have the ability to learn. After 38 years in the teaching profession I find each year to be just as exciting as the last one. It is always so amazing to watch the "light bulb" come on with each child you touch. I believe that children learn by doing and am a firm believer in the hands on approach. I have seen first hand what can happen if a teacher takes an interest in a child's education. I worked as a scout leader at a church in Pensacola. Most of the children were inner city kids who had very little parental involvement. My college experience in the subjects of Economics, Government, Language, Math, Science, and Social Studies was rigorous. After finishing undergraduate courses, I worked for a program that sent college students out to public schools to be Teacher's Aids. We were expected to help any students who were falling behind in a subject. The experience was so rewarding that after graduation, I took a position working with troubled students convicted of sexual assault, teaching them math and science for six months.
