As a graduate student at the University of Alabama I instructed 3 college level physical geography laboratory sections per semester. This experience sharpened my communication skills and provided a valuable new perspective on the learning process. I was also employed as a tutor for the University's Athletic Department.
My teaching style follows my personality. I am a hard worker, therefore I expect hard work in return from my students. I have always been described as one who explains concepts in a manner that is easy to understand, and I feel that this is a result of utilizing the "common sense" approach to problem solving. I am a native of Puerto Rico. I learned English as a second language at the age of 11 years old. I recall the difficulty I had in learning the English language while at the same time trying to make it through the 5th grade. The task was frustrating and often overwhelming. The few teachers who made the effort to tutor me individualy were the ones who made the difference in my academic life. Having just graduated in May 2008, I feel lucky to have already experienced a wide range of instructional opportunities. Last fall, I was employed as a Teacher's Aide and Learning Lab Facilitator. Serving in these capacities have provided me with amazing opportunities to experience the "Response to Intervention" program, IEP's, inclusion classrooms, as well as one-on-one and small group tutoring.
