My teaching style is very progressive. I utilize Howard Gardner's Multiple Intelligences quite a bit. I try my best with individualized testing to identify the students learning style. Then once this is identified, I can teach using the way that the student learns the most effectively. An aha light goes off and they understand the material now with a proud smile. To me, the best part of teaching is when the student starts to understand the material!

My comments on tutoring Dyslexia : My daughter is special needs and I have worked very closely with all of her teacher's and special needs advocate throughout the years which has given me many opportunities to get very familiar with the work that is done year after year. Again, my daughter was diagnosed with dyslexia at a very young age and it just gave us a way of teaching her a new way of learning and living. She is unique just like I believe every child is and they all need to understand how they can achieve greatness in learning because every child can. With dyslexia it's about organization and seeing things differently than the average person.

I have voluteered as a hebrew teacher, crafts teacher and worked as an assistant child care teacher in the past. I have 26 years of parenting, schooling doing endless hours of homework with my children as well as going to College myyself for 7 years. I worked in customer service which allowed me to wrk closely with HR. I also trained people on a regular basis which is teaching. I have worked as a freelance Graphic designer and volunteer for my Church since 2009. I am always updating myself on the new and improved software when I can as well as keeping up with graphic design trends. I have been working with Microsoft Office software since 2009 since I started College and now I have become an expert at it. I am always teaching when it comes to computer software programs or graphic design softwares.
I believe that every child is unique and they each have their own style of learning wh ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I am a former Social Worker from the Foster Care system. I realized thern I wanted to work with children, but more as an educator. I have been tutoring in World History since I was 18 years old through a group known as The Society For Creative Anachronism. I tutor mostly in Human Service type classes on a college level, english and history on a high school level. I also work with special needs children from K-12.
I try to make each lesson unique for my various learners. I have been known to teach in historical clothing, using props from the time period and a smattering of words in other languages. I also incorporate hands on learning such as crafts and some food making. I believe if a method is not working for my students, I change my approach. I also teach in language they are able to understand since their vocabulary is much different than what we spoke in 1970 as well as referne ... read more

My purpose for being on this earth is to teach. It is my passion. One of the most important factors contributing to a child's success is the relationship with the educator. I make every effort to discover the student's interests and base our learning on those interest. It is my goal to make learning enjoyable. My students want to come to school and ask their parents to send them even when they are sick. I have never had discipline problems in my classroom because when children are actively engaged in learning the have no reason to misbehavior. I focus on each child's strength and develop their weaknesses by exposing their strengths. It is important for children to be in a positve environment, so I attempt to make sure each child has at least one positive experience throughout our time together. I like to laugh and have fun, so at times I can be non-traditional. I like to dance ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I have a laid back, yet no nonsense style of teaching that I believe works with most students. I am a friendly and supportive figure, but there is no doubt that I am the one in charge in the classroom or in a tutoring situation. I like for students to learn to think inside, outside, above, and beyond the box when they are trying to learn a subject. No one way is 100% correct, and if a child cannot learn one way, then there is always another way to process the information. Not all children will love to learn, but I do try to show them that they can respect the process, and use it to their advantage.
I have a degree in Middle School Education that allows me to teach Language Arts and Social Studies, and have a Master's degree in English which allows me to teach at the high school and community college level.
