A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated from Ronald Reagan High School with a 4.6 GPA in the second graduating class ('08), then went on the NC State University to study Engineering, where I jumped in between various Engineering programs for three years before simply deciding to take a break and truly figure out what I want to study. While this may deter several people from choosing me, I know that if you met me and/or any of my teachers from any grade level, they/I could certainly set the record straight, as I am quite a smart person, I have simply struggled with getting my life into an appropriate schedule. This is because between high school, my extra curriculars (captain of the drumline for three years and a captain of the lacrosse team for three years), and my parents, my life was completely structured for me, so what little free time I had was easy to budget, this is not the case in high school. I am a ver ... read more

My comments on tutoring Composition : Tutor experience

I have fourteen years of teaching experience and love working with children. I am able to establish quick a quick teacher student relationship. I am able also to quickly see strengths and weaknesses in students. I am curently substituting for the Winston-Salem Forsyth County school system. I prefer elementary students but will also tutor college students. I have found both helped all ages of students improve their grades in many subjects.

I am patient but firm. In order to be a success in the business world, one must be able to write and speak the English language correctly. If the student knows English, everything else in general business can be taught. Thus, in a tutoring environment, I try to make learning fun and make a game out of speaking and writing proper English. I believe that every child can learn even those that are handicapped. My mother was a specialist in teaching trainable children and got them jobs after graduation. Being around children with IQ's around 60 gave me special insight and understanding.
I have 35 years experience in Bell System Management retiring as Operations Manager of Outstate Georgia. As seen from above, I have valid tutoring experience in both middle grades and HS. I was in the student teaching program at Wake Forest and upon graduation, I was a substitute teacher in the Winston-Salem, Forsyth County School system. I also participated in the Junior Achievement program in the Piedmont NC region for over 5 years. I am currently a tutor with the "No Child Left Behind Program."
I am a disciplinarian. I have an excellent ability to gain a students attention, keep it and the results of my students have been well above average. I have a knack to bring into the classroom, outside events (latest ball games, Olympics, etc.) to establish a 'bond' between myself and the student. This allows me to gain their confidence as well as not create a bored atmosphere. I find this very important, especially with the more difficult students.

A Little Bit About Me...

I went to Ohio State in Art, then graduated at Ohio U. I taught 14 years in Florida and Ohio , grades 1 through 12; all subjects. I taught using primarily Art and music. My areas of expertise are Reading, Literature, English, and the arts. I have acted in Little Theatre, choreographed, and taught Drama in High School and in College. I had just started tutoring at A to Z Tutoring in Florida but in 2007 I moved back to North Carolina. I substituted many years in North Carolina and taught in High School and some Elementary.
I have always thought of myself as a progressive teacher. I always thought children could learn to do anything they were asked to do. I always loved learning and felt it was my obligation to instill the same in all my students, no matter what age. I feel all students are influenced by the use of art and music to learn and that is what I use. I know I can make a ... read more

My previous tutoring experiences have shown me that children/young-adults learn and retain information through different processes. For example, some students learn best by simply listening to a lecture while other students require visual aids and the compartmentalization of subjects/ideas. Consequently, I approach my tutoring sessions by first identifying the needs of the child and by secondly finding creative ways to cater to those needs. Furthermore, in the hopes of bolstering the students’ confidence in their own abilities, I like to encourage discussion, thinking out loud and asking questions. It is my goal to have a student’s full comprehension for the subject at hand by the end of each tutoring session.
As a graduate of a highly accredited university, I earned a bachelor’s degree in History and double minored in English and German Studies. Given the reading- and writing ... read more

I am hands-on and usually try to relate the material to the students in fun/meaning ways. I feel that education is key to a successful working career. If students need help with a subject, then I am more than willing to help - either through students seeking me out or analyzing their work for areas that need additional attention.
I have served moderate and low income students through AmeriCorps. My duties included running the after-school program in addition to helping student with their homework. I have also managed a multi-state campaign, and served as Vice President of an organization representing nearly 10,000 graduate/professional students.

I graduated high school in 2003 as the valedictorian of my class. I maintained my high level of academics in college but didn't know what I wanted to do for a career. I graduated in 2007 with my business degree and moved to NC. I worked for a mental health agency helping children in broken homes with school work and being a positive male role model as well as taking pre reqs to return to school for my masters degree in physical therapy. I am currently in my 2nd year of PT school and have always helped others learn throughout my life.
I love working with children and had around 9 different children for a two year period while working at the mental health agency. They ranged from 3 years old to 16 years old. My years of extensive involvement in school and community service activities along with my academic success have all played vital roles toward instilling my value of a higher education. Through out my academic history, I have always excel in the comprehensive subjects of English, from Creative writing merits to Advance placement courses throughout high school , to advanced electives in college. As a Business Management Major with an intended minor in Computer Science, I am well equipped with the skills of writing professional proposals, portfolios, presentations, and memos. I have acquired 12 college credit hours in English; only 6 hours short from converting them to an additional minor. I also have excessive hours and advance training in Microsoft Office components.

I enjoy working with children & adults alike. I firmly believe there is nothing a student can not master, as long as the teacher/tutor is willing to adapt to how that student learns. I am a life-long student & have mastered how to convey information differently to ensure everyone understands. I am patient, personable & encouraging; ensuring that each student not only reaches their academic potential, but gains self-confidence in their academic abilities. I possess what I like to call the NASA mentality, "Failure is NOT an option, we WILL find a way to make all the pieces come together for every student in every subject." Learning is a journey & I believe it is a privilege to be the one to open that gift for others.
As an advocate of learning, I continually pursue education. I believe you must remain current in your subjects of expertise. I hold a Masters in Business Administratio ... read more
