A Little Bit About Me...

I am a recent graduate of Drury University. I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics Cum Laude. I have been tutoring mostly college students for the last 2 years, while in school. I specialize in Algebra, but have the ability to help with any type of math class. In addition to college students, I have also helped elementary students.
I enjoy helping those who struggle with math. After working with a diverse group of students, age 10 to 55, I try to develop a unique teaching method with each person. Some people are more visual, others auditory, and some have math anxiety. After pin-pointing the specific struggles, I can better help the student acheive success.

I hold a BS in Chemistry from Utah State University and have completed the requirements for a MS in Chemistry from the University of Oregon. I have a great physics and math background and have completed courses in quantum mechanics, statistical mechanics, thermodynamics, wave phenomena, etc. During the 2006-07 school year I helped teach third and fourth year undergraduates in the physical chemistry laboratory at the universityn. I have tutored high school and college age students off and on from 2003 to present and have enjoyed the experience.

A Little Bit About Me...

There really is nothing I enjoy more than a good tutoring session. I like passing on the knowledge I have, and especially to students who have trouble, and then find success in working with me. I introduce every new math idea in the purest conceptual form, and then I show the student the practical use they can apply in their homework or on tests. I am a big fan of flashcards or a sheet of notes that reflect everything we learned in the session together. It enables me to show the parents our progress, as well as a resource for the student to refer to for help during homework or test prep. I have found that my methods work well for students who struggle with the basics and want to pass a class, and it also works well for students who are already at the top of their class, and just want a boost to cement their understanding or prepare for a future class.

Throughout my college experience, I have had multiple chances to volunteer as a classroom aide, tutor, and student teach. As I am certified to teach grades K through 8, I have taken college courses in all subject areas. I have pursued in greater detail language arts, mathematics, and social science in order to earn my middle school endorsements. I have tutored students from elementary grades up through algebra 2. I began college level scientific research when I was a senior in high school by volunteering in a UO chemistry lab. Since then I have: measuring tectonic plate movement in the Caribbean, creating models of multi-phase flow, and testing the accuracy of GPS in devices like BlackBerry and Droid phones for vehicle fuel-use modeling. I have two bachelors degrees, BS in mathematics and BS in geology. In addition my passion for math and science was acknowledged with a Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship honorable mention. Although I have earned my degree, BS in Psychology, my previous education includes 2 years at St. John's College in Santa Fe, New Mexico and 2 years of Engineering at Oregon State University. The years at St. John's have given me the unusual ability to tutor students in Ancient Greek. They laid a foundation in Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry and Calculus which the years of Engineering built up further. At the high school and college level I am also currently able to tutor Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Astronomy, Psychology and Anthropology.
