A Little Bit About Me...

While working as a assistant professor at a number of institutions (including the University of Chicago, University of Texas ,San Antonio and several others) I found I almost always had to teach my students how to take notes, how to read to locate crucial information and how best to structure written assignments. I have also had a lengthy career as a print journalist and have developed my communication skills to a fairly high level. I have tutored a few children of middle-school age but have mostly worked with college and graduate students.
I have found I am most successful by not being overly aggressive. I never confront my students with fast-paced drills or time limits. I like to work with students in a cooperative way, one that allows them to discover the best means of figuring out solutions by themselves. My intention is to build confidence and develop problem-solving abi ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

As a recent graduate from the University of New Mexico. I have earned two bachelor degrees, BS in Spanish and BS in Sociology, this two combined have allowed me to understand social sciences to a new level. As you can expect my grammatical skills have flourished due to the combination of my two degrees. I feel competent in the subjects of English, reading, and the social sciences. Through out the last five years, I have been a tutor at my University (CAPS), as well as some volunteer work for students in my High School.
Through out my experience tutoring a diverse group of kids, I have learned to love and appreciate the art of teaching. It’s important to understand the many differences and backgrounds in every child, only then, we can begin to understand their special needs. I do believe everyone can learn given the opportunity, and resources needed to flourish to their maximum pote ... read more

My motivation is to be the best at what I do and to teach students self discipline, good study habits, and to impart difficult subjects with clarity using everyday examples and creativity. A Little Bit About Me...

I desire to see every student succeed in life. Succeeding in school is a big part of learning to become successful in your life. Not so much the individual grades that a student gets, but learning responsibility, perseverance, goal-setting, and striving to do your best. Many students feel like failures through no fault of their own. I love to help students realize success and begin to believe in themselves. I believe that one person can make a difference in a child’s life, and I want to be that person. Each student is an individual, so my style of teaching would depend on your child and the topic.
I have about 10 years teaching experience in both the middle school and high school level. Some of the subjects I have taught include American History, World History, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science, and Earth Science. A Little Bit About Me...

Teaching is not only my career, it's my life. I strongly believe in Howard Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences which states that there are eight different pathways to learning; as a result, I rely on kinesthetic, spatial, and musical intelligences to present new information. I make my expectations clear to my students, and my students clearly state their expectations of me. I advocate and work hard for my students to show that I truly want to help better their lives.
I earned my bachelor of arts degree in English with a minor in secondary education and professional writing certification from the University of Nevada Las Vegas in 2007. I taught 10th grade English and Literary Strategies II, which demonstrates my proficiency in the language arts. More About This Tutor...

I believe that children learn best when the material is most tangible to them. When teaching or tutoring, I make a huge effort to incorporate the students' names into math problems. I make it my goal to find out as much as I can about the students, and then put them in those environments in an imaginative way in some sort of math problem. I am extremely patient with my students, and appreciate gaining knowledge from their statements and insights. When appropriate, manipulatives are wonderful tools as well. Hands-on learners sometimes need to have creative input and control over the situation, and manipulatives allow the student and me to model the problem in a whole new way.
After completing my degree in 2007 at the University of New Mexico, I moved to Denver, CO and taught for one year at Morey Middle School. Since the school is only 5 blocks from the Capitol building and a ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have worked with students of all levels and educational needs. With my 4 children and 4 grandchildren, I have elementary, middle school and high school experience. As a teacher at a Job Corps for 7 years, I had the experience of working with non-traditional students. At Job Corps, I taught reading, developed writing skills/creative writing curriculum, and tutored students in math, health and GED prep. As a self-employed consultant for the past 6 years, I have assisted adults in various higher education programs and computer software training.
My teaching style is very flexible. I believe that a learning/tutoring program must be structured to the individual student's needs and build upon his/her strengths. Both the student and the tutor must work as a team to determine the goals of the program, set the work guidelines, establish milestones, and structure the style of the sessi ... read more

During college I worked for NMSU and CYFD providing two types of tutoring services. With NMSU I worked with fellow college students in classes that I previously passed, which mainly included Accounting and Math. With CYFD I worked with young mothers trying to obtaining their GED. I helped create good study habits and tutored them in all areas included in the GED; Social Studies, Math, Language Arts, and Science. While in college I took several communication classes which had presentations in front of 100 or more students. I took intermediate algebra along with statistics and business calculus. I work with computers on a regular basis (including the internet and Microsoft Office) and have taken several advanced excel courses.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a teacher in Africa offering British curriculum, I have worked in tough conditions, yet registered success. My students achieved outstanding perfomances. I have worked with fellow teachers and lead them to design and apply student centred techniques in their daily teaching. During 12 years of teaching I have taught and inspired students to achieve the best in Physics, Mathematics and ICT. Morever, my on going Masters studies are further equipping me with better teaching Methods.
