My original interest was teaching instrumental music. Although I changed majors and ultimately graduated with a BS in Computer Science, I have continued my interest in teaching, first by volunteer tutoring during college and later by helping adults learn to speak English. I eventually took an intensive summer course in teaching English to speakers of other languages, following which I spent over three years teaching conversational English in Central Asia. Upon returning to the States I worked for a few years for a literacy council, helping administratively and also teaching workplace English. I continue to play in orchestras and teach string instruments privately. I am in the process of completing a Master's degree in Teaching. I love working with children and with adults. I especially enjoy watching a child's eyes light up when something makes sense. I value the constructivist approach

I enjoy watching learners succeed. I have the ability to diagnose learning weaknesses in a student, effectively plan a course to re mediate the student's learning weakness, implement a set of steps to assist the student to take the weakness and turn it to a strength building upon already mastered skills, and evaluate the success of the student's efforts and move on or re-teach based upon the student's needs. I have the ability to motivate learners so that they have fun accomplishing the goals set before them. But I am at the same time very task orientated and use a lot of behavior modification techniques in my approach. I began my teaching career after 10 years in another field. I have a Bachelor’s degree in English Language and Literature and a Master’s degree in Education. I have 5 years of teaching experience both at the high school and community college level. As an English teacher, I have extensive experience with all aspects of Language Arts, including grammar, research, and writing skills. My teaching style follows my core belief – that all students can learn. I utilize a variety of teaching styles and techniques to achieve the best possible results with each student. Many students struggle in school for a variety of reasons, and I strive to make sure that each student’s educational needs are met in order for the student to achieve his/her maximum potential.
