Teaching science is not about teaching facts. Science is based on theories, which evolve through the process of discovery. Thus, it is important to teach a student not what to think, but how to think. With little formal teaching experience, my philosophy draws on what I have liked in my teachers. First, and foremost, is enthusiasm. A professor who is clearly excited by the subject is more likely to spark excitement in the students. Second, it is important to relate to the students on a more personal level. This needs to occur in both directions. I believe the students need to see me as more than a teacher providing the information, but as a scientist and a person with my own views.

I love to interact with somebody who is curious and interested in the subject, no matter what the subject. In mathematics, I believe in a very thorough and conceptual understanding of the subject, which enhances one's ability to use the knowledge in real-world settings, not just memorization of formulae and equations. Understanding, rather than memorization, is also crucial for the student who will continue to learn more advanced subjects in mathematics.
At my undergraduate program, my professor for a course in Symbolic Logic asked to refer students in the class to me, if they had questions about the material. After the class had finished, the professor hired me through the university's Philosophy Department as a tutor for the same class. After graduation, I acted as a private tutor in my spare time.
