I like to be interactive- when I'm teaching I prefer to work through a problem with a student together the first time, letting the student more or less watch me. The second time through, we approach the problem with a little more weight placed on the student. The third time I ask the student to attempt the problem on his/her own, and I'm available for questions.

The lights go on when a student grasps a subject.

I have tutored my friend's daughter in math and English. I have assisted her with science and social studies projects. Her ADHD can inhibit the learning process, but we are able to work through the problems. Learning about weighted blankets helped me work with her. She is a kinetic learner. my nieces are both visual learners. I have to adapt to each learning style.
Teaching brings me pleasure. What I do is to show them, help them, then have them do whatever I am teaching them to do. Sometimes one of the steps may have to be repeated, but this process really works well.

I am patient, warm, and pleasant. What I do is not so much teach the material as a way to learn the material. My methods are to understand the subject matter the students are weak on and learn it with them, displaying that it takes time learning anything and most of the work in understanding subjects are difficult. Initially, I found that students would have the "oh my god" look on their face when trying to solve a problem. Many of these students benefitted greatly from my ability to break a complex problem into manageable steps they could follow. In the past, I would ask each student what gave them the most problem about algebra. Based upon their responses, we worked together with a "team approach" to solve a problem. A Little Bit About Me...

As a Covenant College graduate, I was eager to achieve a high level of excellence in education. I was able to graduate with a bachelor's degree in Community Development. Due to the different core classes required for the major, I was able to take different Economics classes, History classes, and Social science classes. I have a BS in Physics for the City College of the City of New York, with a strong minor in mathematics. I have been in programming for over thirty years. I had not used my mathematical knowledge in many years, but when my grand daughter was having problems in Algebra I helped her. I helped with Algebra 1, Algebra 2, and trigonometry. First I would like to get to know the student and parents, focusing mainly on the student's interests and goals as well as how they feel about the particular subject they will be tutored in. After that I would have the student show me where they currently are in class and what they need help with. Then, depending on the particular circumstances, I would create a plan to get the student caught up and self-sufficient as quickly as possible. Even though fast results are what I hope for, the student would set the pace of the sessions. No topics would be overlooked and they would all receive as much time as the student needs to master them.
